Looking for work? Have an idea how you show up in social media online right now?
In this hands-on workshop, learn how to manage your reputation online and create core materials for creating a positive, work-ready impression on the web--as well as find out what to do--and how to set privacy controls--to create a professional impression on social media.
Google search, Google +, Facebook, and Linked In will be discussed, as well as other tools. We will also talk about how you can do damage control if your social media identity needs some repair.
Bring something to take notes with and a wireless enabled laptop or netbook, if you have one. Participants should have a basic knowledge of using a web browser and have Firefox or Google Chrome browers installed (preferred).
Q&A will be a part of the session.
Class fee for 90 minute session includes class materials, personalized recommendations, and follow-up call with Oakland Local Academy team member within two weeks of the class

INSTRUCTOR: Susan Mernit is the founder of Oakland Local and a recognized national expert in using social media for personal branding, business and civic engagement. Mernit is a nationally active trainer and coach for organizations including The John S and James L Knight Foundation, JAWS (Women in Journalism), and The Knight Digital Media Center at USC Annenberg School of Journalism. She is currently a Senior Fellow for the Reporting on Health project at USC Annenberg School of Journalism.
ASSOCIATE INSTRUCTOR: Tehea Robie is Oakland Local's associate editor and an experienced writing and social media coach and trainer. She was associate trainer for Oakland Local's 2010 trainings for food systems organizers and has worked on social media training with the House of Local team.
